Year 4 Maths: Term 2 Week 1
This week we will look at Place Value and Expanded Notation.
Place Value
We will discuss place value and complete a worksheet individually.
If we can find a deck of cards we can play the Millionaire Place Value Game!
Expanded Notation
Expanded notation is a helpful way to rewrite numbers to show the place value of each digit.
There are two methods we can use to show numbers in expanded notation. An example:
Example Question:
Q. Write the number 4,981 using expanded notation.
Method 1: 4,000 + 900 + 80 + 1
Method 2: (4 x 1,000) + (9 x 100) + (8 x 10) + (1 x 1)
Activity
Write the following numbers using expanded notation - Method 1:
a) 857
b) 2514
c) 5903
d) 13946
e) 77014
Write the following numbers using expanded notation - Method 2:
a) 529
b) 840
c) 3753
d) 25783
e) 10826

Week 10: Year 2 Maths

- We will work out the problem 'Find the Difference' using different problem-solving strategies.
- If we finish early we will work on Number Problems that use the strategies of 'Drawing a Picture' and 'Looking for a Pattern' here.
